Blavity Fest brought together culture-shifting creators, bold innovators, and powerhouse Black-owned brands—and Muscle Up Mommy made sure to be right at the center of it all.

With a clear mission to champion maternal health tech and elevate visibility for moms who like to do it all, Mykel B. Davis, Founder and CEO of Muscle Up Mommy and creator of the first black owned wearable breast pump, arrived ready to lead meaningful conversations and build new bridges.

Understanding the value of showing up with intention, Mykel spontaneously launched her own press tour to connect directly with the people shaping media, technology, and wellness. She didn’t wait for recognition. She created her own moment giving every interaction an opportunity to bring breastfeeding equity and autonomy into spaces where it’s long been ignored, and here's what happened.

Why Maternal Health Tech Matters

In today’s fast-paced world where innovation drives change in everything from finance to fitness— breastfeeding moms are still being left behind. From rigid pumping schedules to a lack of support in public and professional spaces, too many mothers are forced to choose between feeding their babies and chasing their goals.

The truth is, modern motherhood requires modern solutions and that’s exactly why maternal health tech deserves a seat at the table.

Showing up at Blavity Fest not just as a Founder, but as an advocate for maternal tech solutions that give women real freedom was important to Mykel. "Breastfeeding moms have long been left out of important conversations and often times "othered" because of the perception that breastfeeding restricts our ability to get things done." She said. "The design of the J35 wearables sparked conversations around accessibility, flexibility, and the right to choose both career and caregiving without compromise.

By curating what felt like Muscle Up Mommy's own press tour at Blavity Fest, Mykel made sure these conversations weren’t happening behind closed doors or in niche rooms. They were front and center, among top creators, media reps, and investors shaping the future of innovation—proving that when moms are equipped with the right tools, they can do anything.

The Power of Presence and amplifying the voices of moms

Being in attendance at Blavity Fest helped us reposition maternal wellness as a tech priority and celebration of change. Each conversation we had highlighted the dire need for our J35 wearable breast pump innovation and how far the tools have come from traditional wall pumps and carrying around bulky equipment.

Many moms looked at the pump, then looked at Mykel, and said things like, “Where was this when I needed it?” or “This would’ve changed everything for me.” Even attendees without children took one look at the J35 wearables and agreed how useful they would be given their busy schedules and how much they travel.

To Mykel, those weren’t just compliments—they were reflections of real postpartum journeys filled with sacrifice, struggle, and doing the best they could with outdated or inaccessible tools. Some recounted how they had to pump in bathroom stalls, how they hid the hum of traditional pumps under their desks, or how they gave up breastfeeding earlier than they wanted to because the process became too overwhelming. Those stories weren’t rare—they were far too common.

What stood out was the shared recognition that this is what innovation should look like—designed with real people in mind. These women saw their past experiences validated and their future possibilities expanded. It was proof that someone finally built something with their needs at the center.

Notable Connections and Key Takeaways

At Blavity Fest, Muscle Up Mommy didn’t have a booth, a scheduled panel, or a press invite. But what they had was undeniable value, magnetic energy, and a voice to be heard.

Mykel came prepared with demo-ready J35 pumps, branded visuals on her social media, authentic conversation starters, and confident energy that made people stop in their tracks.

She captured attention in the best way possible—by being herself, boldly. Whether in the festival marketplace, nearby VIP lounges, or passing through hallways of panel discussions, she made sure every interaction was one to remember.

Engaging the Media On-Site

When you're navigating the tech landscape as a black woman—especially in maternal wellness—being visible is non-negotiable. It validates ideas and sometimes, it creates waves you didn't see coming.

That’s exactly what unfolded at Blavity Fest. Mykel B. Davis sparked meaningful conversations that caught the attention of major media powerhouses. Her presence and message stood out—leading to connections and interviews with senior editors like Ric Mathis from Rolling Out, Walt from Boss Locks Media , and media personalities from 96.1 The Beat powered by iHeartRadio. That was just some of the few media brands she connected with.

The excitement was evident from all parties, especially after seeing the sleek design of the jj35 wearable pump and hearing about the emotional freedom it offers busy moms. The conversation quickly shifted from curiosity to genuine interest of the entire movement.

Meeting popular Food Critic Keith Lee and His Wife Ronni

One of the biggest moments came when Mykel introduced the J35 wearable pump to viral food critic Keith Lee and his wife, Ronni Lee —both strong advocates of family-first living and authenticity.

Sharing the benefits of discreet, hands-free pumping resonated deeply with them as traveling parents. It was a moment that sparked smiles, support, and shared values around freedom and flexibility.

Mykel even had an opportunity to connect with their team on a deeper level and gift Ronni with a pair of J35 wearable pumps, as her and Keith are expecting baby number 3 later this summer. Keep in mind, this connection came by way of being present at Blavity Fest. A trip that Mykel almost talked herself out of because of the obstacles she faced leading up to travel day.

Bridging the Gap Between Innovation and Access

There seems to always be a little sign of push back when it's time to level up. That's how the trip leading up to Blavity Fest happened for Mykel. As a content creator as well, the hotel partnership she was expecting wasn't confirmed in time, and it almost costed her the trip to Atlanta, GA.

In doing so, she would've missed out on the special moments that happened and meeting Kirk Franklin, seeing 2Chainz perform live with front-row access, connecting with podcasters like David Shands with the Social Proof Podcast, Media hosts from For the Culture News, exchanging contact info with photographers and drone pilots and so much more.

She even got an on-the-spot interview from JoJo Willie with Say Word Podcast and met viral streamer Chris Sails surrounding her departure flight back home.

All of these details shaped the outcome of showing up to Blavity Fest, and the most critical is being able to do so as a breastfeeding mom and not losing the ability to get things done. Pumping on the go plays a vital role in being able to keep up with your milk supply, saving time, and not missing important moments by being stuck with outdated wall pumps.

Being the Founder and Creator behind the J35 Wearable breast pump brand has shaped the way Mykel shows up in rooms and positions solutions for moms in all stages of motherhood.
